Summer Update

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

This summer has been very busy at Metro Ministries! Finishing strong with our Spring season of Sunday school, we went straight into planning for summer camp.

Every August we transform our church into a new world for hundreds of children, and this year did not disappoint. With an African theme in mind, we brought in traditional clothing and music, village huts and wild animals to create an "Escape to Africa". Each activity was named after an African country, so the kids spent the day swimming in Libya, doing arts and crafts in Morocco and playing water games in South Africa. They went down the waterslide in Madagascar and learned to dance in Zimbabwe. While we wanted to ensure the children have the best day of their lives, our main focus was for their lives to be changed by the power of God. Each day ended with a time of praise and worship and the opportunity for each child to be prayed for. We wanted to see God perform miracles and show His love to the children, and He did just that. With over 900 kids coming to day camp this year, over 900 lives were changed in God's presence. We can't wait for next year!

But before we get ahead of ourselves, we have to remember that a new school season is right around the corner! In just a few weeks, kids all over New York City will be returning to the classroom, and Metro Ministries would like to make sure they are well equipped! That's why we provide filled book bags to as many kids as possible before they head back to school. Each book bag comes with notepads, binders, pens and pencils, math equipment, coloring supplies, and more! Our staff members and volunteers hand deliver these book bags to needy boys and girls all over the city. You can help us this year by either sending or purchasing a book bag for a child that comes to Sunday school! Thank you for your continued support!
